The Haynes Cardiovascular Institute operates a full-service Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) Lab, offering diagnostics and therapeutic procedures for coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, and peripheral vascular disease.
Emergency coronary intervention, performed in the Cardiac Cath Lab, has become the standard of care for most heart attacks. As one of the first centers in the nation to make emergency angioplasty available 24/7, we have accumulated almost two decades of experience.
Our success rate for coronary intervention has consistently exceeded 98 percent. “Door-to-treatment time,” the time between a patient’s arrival at the Emergency Department and their emergency angioplasty, can mean the difference between life and death. Our Cardiac Cath Lab team consistently exceeds national standards for door-to treatment times—46 minutes faster than the national average.
As a less invasive alternative to traditional open surgery, interventional cardiology has revolutionized the treatment of heart disease. Interventional cardiology uses minimally invasive, catheter-based techniques to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions. Balloon angioplasty catheters expand blocked arteries. Other types of catheters are used for diagnostic tests, or to place stents that help keep arteries open. Procedures performed in our Cardiac Cath lab include:
- Cardiac catheterization
- Coronary and peripheral vascular angiography
- Percutaneous coronary and peripheral vascular intervention/angioplasty
- Stent implantation, and directional and rotational atherectomy
