A Leading-Edge Cancer Program

It would be challenging to find anyone whose life has not been touched by cancer, either as a patient, friend, or relative. Millions of people are currently battling the disease or have in the past, and roughly 1,600,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States in 2012. Fortunately for the people of Marin, world-class cancer care is available right here at Marin General Hospital. We offer the advantages of an academic cancer program, delivered in a more intimate, neighborhood setting.

  • Expertise
Our comprehensive program includes advanced care for all major types of cancer, with special expertise in tumors of the breast, prostate, and colon. (For rare cancers, we have a partnership with UCSF and collaborate with specialists in those types of tumors.) All of our specialists are board-certified and fellowship-trained, and many attended some of the finest medical schools in the nation, including Stanford and UCSF. They choose to practice in a more patient-friendly environment that affords them the opportunity to spend more time with their patients. Here, they can apply their advanced skills in an environment that allows them to practice in a more patient-centric way.

Our outcomes for breast and prostate cancer consistently
exceeds national averages.
  • Outcomes
By integrating the highest level of care with rehabilitation, supportive care, and holistic complementary services, the Marin Cancer Institute (MCI) achieves outstanding results. In many categories, the survival rate of cancer patients treated at MCI is higher than the U.S. national average—at all stages. Our outcomes for common types of cancer (including breast and prostate), are exceptional, consistently surpassing national averages.
  • Technology
We are committed to maintaining a technological edge, with truly state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Our radiation oncology suite has the latest technologies and we currently have some of the nation’s leading diagnostic equipment, including digital mammography. Computer-assisted diagnosis software is used on all mammograms. Learn about our advanced technology.

Accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers
Our Breast Health Center has outstanding early detection rates and is one of a few Bay Area Breast Health Centers to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). The NAPBC is a consortium of national, professional organizations focused on breast health and dedicated to the improvement of quality care and outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast through evidence-based standards and patient and professional education.

Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®)
The quality of the care that an oncology patient receives is one of the most important aspects of a successful treatment outcome. QOPI is a program from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, which provides oncologists with quality measurement and improvement tools so that they can integrate continuous quality enhancement into their practice. Marin Cancer Institute is one of only 10 QOPI-certified practices in California and 137 in the nation.

We are a "Breast Imaging Center of Excellence."
