Marin General Receives More National Honors for Excellence in Care and Safety

National Watchdog Non-profit The Leapfrog Group Delivers an “A” Grade for Safety and Healthgrades Ranks Marin General Hospital Among America’s best in the Nation for Patient Care

GREENBRAE, CA — Marin General today announced it has received several more awards for its clinical excellence and hospital safety from premiere organizations including Healthgrades, the leading online resource helping consumers make informed decisions, and National non-profit hospital watchdog The Leapfrog Group.

Most recently, Marin General Hospital was honored with an “A” grade in Hospital Safety Score rankings, rating how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety Score is calculated under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel and uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single grade representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. This score is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families. The A grade highlights Marin General’s achievement in providing patient’s a very safe medical environment.

Healthgrades also recognized Marin General Hospital this month as one of America’s 100 Best™ hospitals for Cardiac Care – for the third consecutive year. In this study, Healthgrades evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 33 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions and identified the 100 best-performing hospitals across all conditions or procedures within this service line. This comes on the heels of the Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence which was granted to Marin General Hospital for the second year in a row this past January; an award that is given to only 260 hospitals nationwide and places Marin General in the top five percent of hospitals in the United States.

In addition, the hospital received many Healthgrades Five-Star rating in a variety of other clinical areas for excellence. A 5-star rating indicates that Marin General’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or conducting the procedure being evaluated. These areas include:

  • Valve Surgery for 3 Years in a Row (2014-2016)
  • Coronary Interventional Procedures for 4 Years in a Row (2013-2016)
  • Treatment of Heart Attack for 4 Years in a Row (2013-2016)
