Interventional Radiology

Marin General Hospital’s newly expanded Interventional Radiology Department is more comprehensive than ever. Interventional Radiology is a growing medical specialty that uses sophisticated imaging guidance to deliver precisely targeted radiation treatments. Many conditions that once required surgery can now be successfully treated through interventional radiology.

We use interventional radiology for a wide variety of conditions. The benefits include smaller incisions, shorter hospital stays, and even reduced risk, pain, and recovery time. In addition, patients treated by interventional radiologists rarely need general anesthesia, and the procedures are usually less expensive than general surgery. Our interventional radiologists are board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians who provide both inpatient and outpatient consultation and care. The team excels at the following vascular interventions:

  • Emergency embolization
  • Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE)
  • Diagnostic angiography & venography
  • Peripheral vascular angioplasty & stenting
  • Arterial & venous thrombolysis
  • Treatment of renal artery stenosis
  • Arteriovenous (AV) fistula / AV graft revascularization
  • Inferior vena cava (IVC)  filter placement and retrieval
  • Central venous access catheters
  • Treatment of varicoceles and pelvic congestion syndrome
  • Varicose vein treatment
  • Portosystemic shunt (TIPS)
  • Intra-vascular foreign body retrieval
  • Transjugular liver biopsy
  • Femoral artery pseudoaneurysm treatment
