UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Greenbrae Outreach Clinic

At Marin General Hospital, pediatric care begins at birth, for those babies who require the expert attention of our Level II NICU – the ONLY Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Marin County. Our pediatric program is the most comprehensive in all of Marin County and we have the expertise, experience, and equipment to provide exceptional care for kids from birth to age 18, whether the concern is a minor illness, a condition requiring hospitalization, or a medical emergency.

"Ouchless" Emergency Care

Marin County families can rest assured that if their child has to take a trip to the Emergency Room, Marin General Hospital is equipped with the latest in pediatric care. Our emergency department has child-sized equipment and a staff of pediatric hospitalists – a hospital-based doctor who specializes in children – available 24/7. In addition, we have introduced an “ouchless” approach that incorporates child-friendly protocols that help take the anxiety and pain out of visits. Emergency staff and physicians have been trained extensively in distraction and sensitivity techniques for use with their pediatric patients. Some injections are needle-free and shot blockers reduce the pain of shots. Plus, interactive and educational toys are used during the visit – such as dolls to demonstrate procedures or breathing treatment masks with animal faces to add playfulness and encourage patient compliance. What’s more, our emergency department recently renovated three treatment rooms dedicated to pediatric patients and we have a child-life specialist who will works closely children and their families.
