A Collaborative Team of Experts
Our childbirth team is the result of a thoughtful collaboration between the hospital and local OB/GYN providers. The primary objective was to make it easy for patients to choose the type of labor and delivery care they want, supported by around-the-clock services such as anesthesia, pediatrics, and perinatology. Our collaboration with Prima Midwives makes us the only hospital in either Marin or San Francisco to have a doctor and certified nurse-midwife team available in the hospital at all times.
- Obstetricians: We work with local OB/GYNs to ensure all patients have the opportunity to choose the kind of prenatal experience and labor and delivery care they want, including vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), physician-assisted births, and midwife-assisted births. We have OB/GYNs onsite, 24 hours a day.
- UCSF perinatologists and neonatologists: High-risk pregnancies are stressful enough without having to leave Marin for treatment. That’s why we have UCSF experts onsite to bring high-risk pregnancies to term and care for newborns with health issues. In addition, pregnant women with types 1, 2, or gestational diabetes can get special advice and supervision from our Braden Diabetes Center.
- Support Team: There’s no telling when labor will begin, so our support services, including anesthesia, pediatrics, specialized nursing care, and advanced perinatology, are available around-the-clock. We always have an OR and surgical team ready for emergency cesareans. Our nursing team is comprised of dedicated obstetric and neonatal nurses, specially trained in support of both natural childbirth and high-risk deliveries. Anesthesiologists and pediatricians are available 24/7.
- Certified Nurse Midwives: The Midwives of Marin are a group of Certified Nurse Midwives who work with the Prima Medical Foundation and Marin General Hospital. They are registered nurses with a master's degree in nursing or public health and are certified through the American College of Nurse-Midwives, which works in conjunction with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
