Special Partnerships with UCSF and Stanford

Academic medical centers are the first places people turn to for access to the latest medical procedures, most advanced technologies, or the most promising clinical trials. In the past, Marin residents had to cross the bridge to drive to UCSF, or further south, to Stanford. Instead of having people cross the bridge, we decided to BE the bridge, offering specialized care from UCSF and Stanford experts, right here in Marin.

Our UCSF Collaboration

Benioff Children’s Hospital
Our relationship with UCSF’s Benioff Children’s Hospital allows Marin families to benefit from the resources and knowledge base of one of the nation’s preeminent pediatric hospitals. UCSF perinatologists and neonatologists work on site, monitoring difficult pregnancies and caring for fragile newborns in the Marin General Hospital Level II NICU. A UCSF prenatal diagnostic center staffed with specialists in high-risk obstetrics located adjacent to the hospital enables Marin women with high-risk pregnancies to get the extra monitoring they need close to home, and have their babies at Marin General Hospital. We also routinely collaborate with doctors at the UCSF Benioff Larkspur clinic, an outpatient multi-specialty practice with experts in pediatric cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, pulmonology, orthopedics, ear nose and throat, and eating disorders.

Madison Clinic
The renowned Madison Clinic at UCSF Benioff treats children with diabetes. Their approach to care embraces the whole family, taking into consideration culture, social milieu, and family dynamics. Through our special partnership between Dr. Saleh Adi, the founder of the Madison Clinic, and our Braden Diabetes Center, we are bringing Madison Clinic expertise to Marin children and their families.

Neurosurgery
Our relationship with the UCSF Department of Neurosurgery allows us to offer patients seamless care between our two institutions. UCSF neurosurgeons provide brain and spine surgical expertise on both an emergency and elective basis at Marin General Hospital's Spine and Brain Institute.

Cardiac Surgery
Dr. Scot L. Merrick is the Chief of the Division of Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery at UCSF and has an active practice in Marin. He performs the full spectrum of cardiac surgery procedures at Marin General Hospital, including mitral valve replacement.

Gynecologic Oncology
Marin General Hospital has partnered with UCSF to bring gynecologic oncology services to Marin County. Marin women can now see a UCSF gynecologic oncologist at a clinic in Marin and have their surgery performed by the UCSF surgeon at Marin General Hospital on our daVinci SI Robot. What’s more, follow up treatment can be seamlessly managed by the experts at Marin General Hospital’s Cancer Institute.

Our Stanford Collaboration

Dr. Tina Desai, a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Stanford, is now seeing patients at Marin Healthcare District’s Sirona Vascular Center, where she maintains her primary practice. Dr. Desai is on staff and performs surgeries at Marin General.
