Primary Stroke Center Certification (2016-2018)
The Joint Commission
Marin General Hospital received re-certification in 2016 from the Joint Commission for its stroke program and received the 2017 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for the seventh year in a row. Both programs are voluntary processes intended to elevate the standard of care for stroke programs and instill confidence in the community served.

To receive the Get With The Guidelines award, a hospital must achieve 85 percent or higher adherence to all indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and 75 percent or higher compliance with six of 10 Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Measures. These measures include aggressive use of medications that have been shown to improve patient outcomes, such as tPA, antithrombotics, anticoagulation therapy, DVT prophylaxis, cholesterol reducing drugs and smoking cessation. All are aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients.

Level III Trauma Center Verification (2015-2018)
The American College of Surgeons
As verified by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the trauma center at Marin General Hospital has been verified as a Level III Trauma Center. This achievement recognizes the trauma center’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.

Established by the ACS in 1987, the COT’s Consultation/Verification Program for Hospitals promotes the development of trauma centers in which participants provide not only the hospital resources necessary for trauma care, but also the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients. This spectrum encompasses the prehospital phase through the rehabilitation process.

Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by ACS. This program provides confirmation that a trauma center has demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients.
