Marin Healthcare District CEO, Lee Domanico, announced veteran Marin Cardiologist Joel Sklar, MD has joined the District as its Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Sklar has been practicing medicine in Marin since 1982 and is currently Chief of Cardiology and Medical Director of the Marin Heart Institute at Marin General Hospital. Since 1986 he has been an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the UCSF School of Medicine where he has more than 35 publications relating to cardiac imaging and cardiac rehabilitation. Dr. Sklar is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Critical Care Medicine, and Interventional Cardiology. He is committed to patient centered care, balancing the best of high-tech procedural medicine with the basic concepts of wellness and prevention.
In his role as Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sklar will be responsible for medical quality and medical staff relations for Marin General Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, he graduated from Williams College in Massachusetts before attending medical school at University of California San Diego. He completed his Internal Medicine and Cardiology training at University of California San Diego and University of Colorado. Dr. Sklar has been named numerous times to "best cardiologists" lists in San Francisco Magazine, Bay Area Consumer Checkbook and Best Doctors in America. Dr. Dr. Sklar also serves as Chairman of the Board for Bank of Marin and Bank of Marin Bancorp. Sklar and his family now reside in Kentfield.
