Lactation Counseling & Education (415) 925-7522
Available by appointment, individual lactation counseling and education sessions are provided by a Registered Nurse, Certified Lactation Consultant to answer questions and concerns and to give hands-on help in learning how to breastfeed. Our Consultants are Registered Nurses with decades of experience specializing in newborn and postpartum care.

What should I expect at my first session?
The consultant will take a complete feeding history and the baby will be weighted before and after nursing each breast to determine the intake of milk. Challenges will be addressed, positioning and latch will be evaluated, and a feeding plan that will work for parents and baby will be determined. Any question will be addressed and parents will be asked to bring a list of questions to the appointment. Mothers with specific problems will have that issue addressed. The consultant will follow parents by phone and will be available for further follow-up appointments as needed.

What should I expect at subsequent sessions?
The baby will be weighed and assessed for adequate weight gain. A history feeding will be discussed and a look at how the plan is working for both baby and parents. Plan revisions are made and questions answered.

Fees:
Marin General will bill your insurance company for services. Self - pay is also accepted. Self-pay fees for Lactation Services are comparable to other Bay Area Lactation Centers.
