Twenty physicians on staff at Marin General Hospital helped 85 patients in 2009 through the Operation Access program, a non-profit organization that helps connect uninsured patients with free surgical care through a network of Bay Area medical volunteers, hospitals and community clinics. Physicians practiced along with Anesthesia Consultants of Marin to provide free services to these patients. Also participating were Marin Medical Laboratories and California Advanced Imaging Medical Associates.
Fourteen percent of patients received general surgical services, like hernia repair or cyst removal, and 86 percent received specialty procedures, such as vascular and orthopedic procedures. Patients were referred through five Marin clinics.
Surgeons participating last year were: Drs. Robert Anderson (ophthalmology), Melinda Aquino (vascular surgery), Nora Azimi (colorectal), Patrick Bennett (urology), Charles Bookoff (obstetrics/gynecology), Michael Bozuk (general surgery), David Galland (obstetrics/gynecology), David Goltz (orthopedic), Chad Goodman (radiology), Shahin Javaheri (plastic surgery), Danny Kao (gastroenterology), Kin-Man Lai (vascular surgery), Crystine Lee (general surgery), Natalie Lee (gastroenterology), Jonathan Levin (general surgery), Roland Minami (plastic surgery), Malini Nijagal (obstetrics/gynecology), Jahangir Sadeghi (ophthalmology), Timothy Sowerby (gastroenterology), and Al Varner (gastroenterology).
