Marin General Hospital’s Family Birth Center today said that 1,788 babies were delivered in 2007 and that Sophia/Sofia and Dylan/Dyllan were the most popular names.
Chief Nursing Officer Michelle Quigley Martinez, RN, MSN, said 896 girls and 892 boys were delivered, including 71 sets of twins. Last year, 1,670 babies were delivered at the hospital: 807 girls, 863 boys, and 66 sets of twins.
Seventeen girls were named Sophia (12) / Sofia (5), followed by Angel (11) Ashley / Mia (9 each), and Elizabeth / Gabriella / Grace (7 each). A dozen boys were named Dylan (11) / Dyllan (1), followed by Alexander and Kevin (11 each), Jacob (10), Christopher / Jonathan / Jordan / Ryan (9 each), Anthony / Benjamin / Jack / Jackson / Michael / Samuel / William (8 each), and Aidan / Brandon / James / Joseph (7 each).
In 2006, the most popular names for girls were: Sophia / Sofia, Ava, Ashley, Abigail, Katherine, Emma, Madeline, Mia, Ella, Lauren and Olivia; and for boys: Alexander, Nicholas, Jose, Anthony, Ryan, Bryan, Christopher, David and Jonathan.
The center provides technologically advanced care in a family-like setting. The staff of more than 100 includes obstetricians, pediatricians, neonatologists and specially trained nurses. The hospital has assisted with almost 78,000 births since it opened in 1952.
The center has a Lactation Center, which provides lactation education, support services and products for new mothers so they can enjoy a healthy and satisfying breastfeeding experience.
