Marin General Hospital is committed to providing a variety of healthcare programs and services to the entire community. Public education seminars are free or low lost and generally held at MGH. Examples of programs include stress management, diet and disease, nutrition, heart health, creativity and healing, diabetes, learning disabilities, habit control, high cholesterol, plastic surgery, guided imagery, migraines, preventing falls, mental health, hepatitis C, fibromyalgia, tamoxifen treatment for breast cancer, colon cancer and breast health. As a volunteer, you can make an important difference to both patients and their families. Should you choose to work directly with patients, assignments may include work in the following areas: Emergency Department, medical records, book cart, mail, outpatient surgery, the Marin Cancer Institute, nursing units and patient liaison. Volunteers may select other assignments with indirect or no patient contact. Donors may designate their gifts to a specific program or equipment need in the hospital although general, undesignated contributions are gratefully accepted. The policy of Sutter Health is that all charitable contributions remain in the local community and are used for local hospital needs.Since 1985, over $50 million has been donated by more than 20,000 caring individuals, families, foundations and corporations to the hospital, enabling the hospital to provide the best possible healthcare to the Marin Community. The hospital has received no tax support since 1976. Gifts to MGH are tax deductible according to state and federal laws. Proceeds from deferred gifts, such as wills, trusts, IRAs and insurance policies are invested in the Hospital's Endowment Fund to support future healthcare services in Marin.
